Stanislav's father, Igor, is a

scientist in Riga. In 1977, he

applied for an exit visa in
order to be reunited with his
sister in Israel. His refusal
came shortly after with the
explanation, no reason to
emigrate from the USSR."
Malishev was fired from
his position as senior lecturer
at Kiev State University as
soon as he applied for an exit
visa. During World War II,
Malishev was separated from
his sister who now lives in
Israel and would like to be
reunited with her.
Ami has written to Stanis-
lav and 'will attempt to con-
tact the family by phone.
UHS To Host
Lecture On Yiddish
The second annual Morris
and Sarah Friedman Lecture
on Yiddish Language and
Culture will take place at 2
p.m. Nov. 2.
Dr. Dan Miron will speak
on "Yiddish Language and
Yiddish Folklore — The In-
terrelationship."
Dr. Miron is professor of
Hebrew literature at Hebrew
University in Jerusalem and
director of Yiddish literary
studies at the Max Weinreich
Center for Advanced Jewish
Studies, YIVO Institute, New
York. Although Israel is his
home, he has spent several
years in the United States as
visiting professor at Colum-
bia, Yale and YIVO.
The lecture will take place
in the United Hebrew Schools
Louis and Esther LaMed Au-
ditorium, 21550 West 12 Mile
Road. Refreshments will fol-
low. The public is invited.

American Red Cross and
Henry Ford Hospital recently
launched a pilot project to in-
crease blood donations in
southeastern Michigan.
The program used specially
trained volunteers to solicit
blood donations from hos-
pitalized patients, and their
visiting family and friends.
