WITH GOOD TASTE Goldie Cohen Goldie Cohen, a life-long member of the Sholem Aleichem Institute, died Oct. 12. She was 102. Mrs. Cohen was a native of Russia. She came to the U.S. in 1905, and to Detroit in 1911. Shortly after her arri- val in Detroit she worked in a sweat shop and was fired for union organizing activi- ties. Mrs. Cohen was a trained mid-wife and risked her life helping others during the nationwide flu epidemic in 1917. In 1929, she began a dress shop business on Fenkell and later moved her business to Jefferson Avenue. Mrs. Cohen leaves two daughters, Mrs. Rose Lieberman and Mrs. Mollie Cooper; a sister, Esther Glass; ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Born in Detroit, Mr. Sol- omon was a resident of North Miami Beach, Fla., and De- troit. He retired four years ago. He was a member of Knoliwood Country Club, the Westview Country Club in Miami and Cong. Beth Ab- raham Hillel Moses. Mr. Solomon was graduated from Northern High School, where he played on the football team. He also was graduated from Wayne State University.
