JPM Seniors
Mark Sabbath

The Erev Shabbos program
for senior adults will take
place at 12:30 p.m. today in
Jaffe Hall of the Jewish
Community Center's Jimmy
Prentis Morris Branch.
The For Women Only Club
will perform music and give
readings appropriate to the
High Holidays.
The senior adult depart-
ment will begin a new pro-
gram, "Dealing With Feel-
ings — Hearing, Vision and
Memory Changes," at 1:30
p.m. today in room 15 of the
JPM Branch. Rozanne Sedler
of the Jewish Family Service
will conduct the self-help
group. •
The second program in the
Ask Your Agency series will
take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday
in the JPM assembly hall.
Representatives of the JFS,
Jewish Vocational Service
and Sinai Hospital will speak
on home and health care op-
tions. Families are welcome.
The Social Service Club
will have its annual memo-
rial service for its deceased
members at 1 p.m. Tuesday
in Jaffe Hall of the JPM
Branch. Children of the de-
ceased members are invited.
Rabbi Benjamin Gorrelick
will officiate.
The Tuesday Movie Series
will feature Showboat at 2
p.m. in th JPM assembly
hall.
An intergenerational suc-
cah building workshop will
take place at 6:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday on the front lawn of
the JPM Branch. Senior
adults will meet with repre-
sentatives of the Lubavitcher
Center and decorating tips
will be offered. Refreshments
will be served. The commu-
nity is invited free of charge.
Geri Levitt will entertain
at the Erev Shabbos program
at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 17 in Jaffe
Hall of the JPM Branch.
Ms. Sedler will conduct the
"Dealing with Feelings —
Hearing, Vision and Memory
Changes" program at 1:30
p.m. Oct. 17 in room 15 of the
JPM Branch.

Center Seniors
Begin New Series

Grace Gluskin, former col-
umnist for the Observer and
Eccentric newspapers, returns
to the Jewish Community
Center of Metropolitan De-
troit at Maple/Drake to con-
duct an eight-week series on
family dilemmas and joys.

The series will begin on
Thursday at 11 a.m. in room
239 of the main center. There
is no charge, and enrollment
is limited. For information or
to register, call Judy Samson,
967-4030.
"Improving Communica-
tions" is the topic on Thurs-
day at 1 p.m. in room 239
when Edna Weinberg returns
to the Jewish Center to con-
duct a workshop for senior
adults.

This workshop is designed
to help senior adults become
effective communicators.
Ms. Weinberg received a
Bachelor of Arts degree from
Adelphi University, has
worked at Career Develop-
ment Consultants as a direc-
tor and has conducted man-
agement development and
personal growth seminars.
There is no charge for this
workshop, but enrollment is
limited. For reservations, call
Ms. Samson.

Hebrew Literacy
Courses Offered

Cong. Beth Shalom Men's
Club announces its Hebrew
literacy program will begin
Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the
synagogue.
Open to men and women in
the community, the program
-will have two levels, the
Sholem Aleichem level for
persons with no working
knowledge of Hebrew, and
the Ayn Kelohaynu level for
persons with some reading
skills.
Men's club members will
instruct the two courses.
There is a fee, which in-
cludes the text. Registration
deadline is Wednesday. For

Mideast Topic
Of U.S. Official

Ryan Crocker, deputy di-
rector, Office of Israel and
Arab-Israeli Affairs, U.S. De-
partment of State, will ad-
dress the next session of the
Einstein Luncheon Forum,
noon Tuesday at the Hamil-
ton Place in Southfield.
Crocker will discuss "U.S.
Policy in the Middle East -
Frustration or Progress?"
A career foreign service
officer, Crocker entered the
foreign service in 1971 and
has served in Iran, Qatar,
Iraq and, most recently, in
Lebanon.
He spent the 1984-1985
academic year at Princeton
University, concentrating on
Middle Eastern studies. Born
in Spokane, Wash., Crocker
was educated at Whitman
College in Washington and at
University College, Dublin.
He speaks Arabic, French
and Persian.
