The Flint Jewish commu-
nity and Israel will honor
communal leaders Michael A.
and Natalie Pelavin at a
tribute dinner on behalf of
State of Israel Bonds at 6
p.m. Nov. 2 at Cong. Beth Is-
.rael, 5240 Calkins, it was
announced by Flint Israel
Bonds General. Chairman
Louis Kasle.
The Pelavins will receive
the State of Israel's
"Jerusalem, City of Peace"
Award, "in recognition of
-- their service to their commu-
nity, the Jewish people and
,he State of Israel."
Pelavin is the chairman of
the National Jewish Commu-
nity Relations Advisory
Council for which he has
served as a member of its
executive committee and
chairman of its domestic task
force.
He is a commissioner of the
Martin Luther King, Jr. Fed-
--- eral Holiday Commission and
serves as a member of the in-
ternational council and the
executive of the World Con-
.-ference on Soviet Jewry.
He is a board. member of
the North American Jewish
Student Appeal, Men's ORT,
HIAS, and the American
Friends of Hebrew Univer-
sity, and he is a member of
the Commission on Social Ac-
tion of Reform Judaism. He is
a board member of the
Anti-Defamation League
Holocaust Advisory Commit-
tee.
Pelavin has served on the
board of directors of the
Council of Jewish Federa-
tions and as chairman of its
committee on small cities. He
is chairman of the Urban Co-
alition of Greater Flint and
has served as chairman of
COMPACT (the local poverty
action agency). He is cur-
rently a member of the board
of trustees of the Flint Insti-
tute of Arts. Pelavin is one of
the founding members of
MIPAC, a national multi-
issue political action commit-
tee.
He has served as president
and campaign chairman of
the Flint Jewish Federation
and has served in many
capacities with the United
Jewish Appeal including
chairmanship of the United
Jewish Appeal Young Lead-
ership Cabinet in 1973.
Mrs. Pelavin is the im-
mediate past president of the
Flint Jewish Federation and
currently chairs its planning,
budget and allocations com-
mittee. She has chaired the
Women's Division of the Fed-
eration Campaign and cur-
rently serves on the Women's
Campaign Cabinet.
She is past president of
Flint's Temple Beth El and
its sisterhood. She has served
as vice president of the board
of Flint Planned Parenthood
and of the board of trustees of
the Valley School.
