Your original article on the
Interfaith Symposium (Sept.
26) was well done. I was dis-
appointed to see Aaron
Goldberg's letter (Oct. 3),
where he completely missed
the point of the all- day con-
ference.
This program was put to-
gether by men of good will
from all three faiths — all
U.S. citizens, all moderates.
We had Muslims who are
not Arabs; we had Arab
Americans of many different
geographical backgrounds.
We were not there to decide
or discuss the Middle East
conflict.
While it may be true that
Middle East Arab leaders and
terrorists have made life un-
safe for Jews, we Jews should
know better than to blame or
condemn a whole people for
the actions of some — espe-
cially not to blame our
neighbors ... for what some
"nut" does in the Middle
East.
Finally, to ignore the com-
munication and understand-
ing achieved during this
wonderful day and concen-
trate on the remarks of one
person is certainly not going
to get us anywhere in build-
ing bridges to our Muslim
and Christian neighbors, who
all came there to accentuate
our similarities, not our dif-
ferences. ...

Today, over two million
Jews are trapped in a country
that is impossible to live in,
and practically impossible to
leave. Since 1979, Jewish
emigration from the USSR
has dropped by 98 percent.

behind, life has become more

her job is revoked, becomes a
social outcast, and is con-
stantly harassed by the KGB.

granted for a husband with-
out his wife and children. A
Jewish Prisoner of Con-
science (POC) is one who has
been put on trial for having
an active role in trying to go
to Israel. They are prosecuted
for alleged, trumped-up
