Groups Pushing
Israel Tourism

New York — With the ap-
pointment of Rabbi Joseph P.
Sternstein as chairman of its
new Task Force on Tourism,
the Conference of Presidents
of, Major American Jewish
Organizations launched a
nationwide drive to promote
travel to Israel with the call,
"This year in Jerusalem."
Morris B. Abram, chairman
of the Presidents Conference,
said he was "pleased and
gratified" at the initial re-
sponse to the launching of
the campaign "not only by
our 40 constituent member-
organizations but also by
leaders of the United Jewish
Appeal, State of Israel Bonds,
and local Jewish federations
across the country."
A planning session on how
to promote Israel-related
travel among women was
attended by 130 representa-
tives of local and national
women's groups.
The leaders of 60 national
Jewish religious and secular
organizations signed a "Dec-
laration of Jewish Unity —
This Year in Jerusalem" dur-
ing the visit to New York
last month of Prime Minister
Shimon Peres of Israel.

Capital's Status
Strengthened

Jerusalem (JTA) — A
series of proposals to
strengthen the status of
Jerusalem as Israel's capital
and further its economy and
development were approved
unanimously by a ministerial
committee. The proposals
were made by a steering
committee headed by Chaim
Kubersky.
The ministerial committee
agreed that five senior
cabinet ministers would be in
charge of further implement-
ing the basic law which es-
tablished Jerusalem as the
seat of government. They are
the premier and vice premier,
the interior minister, finance
minister and minister of
economy and planning.
They will be authorized to
establish by-laws covering all
spects of the basic law. By so
doing, the declarative status
of the basic law will be
guaranteed and given an
executive character.

Hassan Agrees
To Body Return

Jerusalem (JTA) — The
bodies of 22 Jewish immig-
rants who died when their
Israeli-bound ship, Egoz,
foundered in Moroccan
waters in 1961, will be trans-
ferred to Israel for reburial.
King Hassan of Morocco
authorized the transfer in re-
sponse to a request from
Premier Shimon Peres. The
matter was handled through
the offices of United Nations
Secretary General Javier
Perez de Cuellar.
