YEAR IN REVIEW 5746 YEAR N REVIE

RABBI MOSHE FEINSTEIN, known throughout the
Orthoddx world simply as "HaRav Moshe" and revered for
his authoritative Halachic decisions on countless issues,
died in New York at 91, only a short time after the death of
Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetzky, the 95-year-old dean of Mesifta
Torah Vodaath.

JACOB JAVITS, the four-term
Republican Senator from New York, died
at 81 after a long struggle with
Lou Gherig disease.

BERNARD MALAMUD, whose fiction often chronicled
the pain and loneliness of the Jewish experience, died of a
heart ailment at the age of 71.
