A HEALTHY, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

To Our Readers:

Rosh Hashanah is a time of happiness and joy,
of reflection and introspection. It's a time of shar-
ing and giving, a time of solidarity with our
people.
Though Rosh Hashanah is not the end of our
business year, it is the end of our spiritual year. ,
We, at The Jewish News, look upon the end of
year 5746 with a sense of pride and accomplish-
ment, though realize that our task is an ongoing
one . . . to provide you — our valued reader —
with a newspaper of quality and integrity.
We have greatly expanded the quantity and
quality of our local news package. Today's feature
by staff writer David Holzel on the Jews of Troy is
an example of the high standards to which we are
committed. And our recently introduced
Entertainment section casts a spotlight on local ta-
lent in ways not to be found elsewhere.
Our local news package has been enhanced by a
number of special sections. Our exquisite bridal
and fashion magazines remain the "talk of the
town."
Because of its independence, The Jewish News
brought you stories not found in any other publica-
tion. Our series on The Jewish Agency and how it
distributes funds in Israel ended up on the desk of
Prime Minister Peres and sparked healthy debate
in Jerusalem. We provided in-depth stories on
problems at B'nai B'rith that threaten its survival
and on the Lubavitcher Rebbe, whose influence
reaches far beyond Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn.
Along the way, we earned a first place design
award from the American Jewish Press Associa-
tion, attesting to our. efforts to make The Jewish
News inviting to read. And with your loyal
readership as a foundation, The Jewish News is
now the second largest Anglo-Jewish newspaper in
America, averaging over 100 pages per week.
For the new year 5747, The Jewish News will-
remain resolute in its commitment to quality local
reporting and to providing the best possible pack-
age of news and information of interest to you
from around the world.
The Jewish News strives to be a supermarket of
information and views, where readers of all ages
and from all religious and • economic backgrounds
can congregate in the midst of our pages and find
something — every Friday — that will enlighten,
enrich and entertain. On October 24, we will in-
troduce Single Life, a weekly section that will give
singles — never married, previously married and
previously married with children — an aisle of
their own in our supermarket.
In the coming year, we remain committed to
working with all who seek to foster cooperation
and understanding between Jew and Jew, Jew and
non-Jew.
We look forward to serving you.
L'shana tova.
