to facilitate the absorption
and acculturation of less
privileged groups that make
aliyah from countries other
than the United States. If it
wants to attract and retain
,..",.merican olim, Israel should
be aware of the facts that
ontribute to the high return
of Americans and try to miti-
gate them to make these im-
migrants' adjustment easier."
The report concludes: For
some American olim who re-
,=turn to the United States, the
i deological factors that made
Israel attractive to them in
the first place are not strong
' enough to offset those that
impelled them to return."
Because many of the retur-
\ nees indicated that their atti-
tudes and their behavior re-
garding Jewishness and Is-
rael had become even more
positive after their return,
/the authors suggest: "Jewish
communal leaders may wish
to consider ways of tapping
his rich human resource,
making use of the returning
hill's experience and com-
mitment to strengthen
Jewish life in America and
reinforce the ties between
American Jewry and Israel."

Chickens Have
Taste Too

Jerusalem — Softening the
texture of feed pellets has
been found to improve chic-
% kens' appetite and food in-
\ take. "Give chickens comfort-
able physical conditions and
• palatable food and they will
%- repay you with better growth
> and better meat," claims
Prof. Israel Nir of the He-
of
University
\, brew
• Jerusalem's faculty of ag-
• riculture in Rehovot.
• Prof. Nir found that chic-
>kens preferred pelleted feed
over powdery mixtures, but
that the usual pellets were
too hard, and the chickens
preferred a softer pellet
which, it turns out, is also
much less expensive to pro-
/ duce.

Passport
Changes Urged

Montreal, (JTA) — Jerry

• Weiner, minister of state for
/ immigration, proposed that
Canada drop a citizen's place
of origin from its passports to
protect them should they fall
into the hands of terrorists
while travelling aboard.
"The act of being a Cana-
dian should guarantee the
same security to everyone,"
Weiner, the only Jewish
minister in the Brian Mul-
roney government, told a
Canadian Jewish Congress
committee. "When we iden-
tify a citizen's place of origin
we are placing Canadians at
risk in saying you are not as
equal as other Canadians,"
he said.
