John Loftus

John Loftus, former trial
attorney for the Justice De-
partment Office of Special
Investigations and author of
the Belarus Secret will be the
second speaker in the
Holocaust Memorial Center's
Fall Lecture Series.
His lecture, "How the Gov-
ernment Agencies Smuggled
Nazis into the U.S.," will
take place in the Studio
Theatre of the Jewish Com-
munity Center, 6600 West
Maple Road, West Bloom-
field, on Tuesday, at 8 p.m.
The event is co-sponsored
by the Holocaust Memorial
Center, the Ecumenical Insti-
tute for Jewish-Christian
Studies, the Greater Detroit
Interfaith Round Table of the
National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews and the
Jewish Community Center.
A graduate of Boston Latin
School and Boston College,
Loftus completed his M.A.
degree in public administra-
tion and Doctor of Law de-
gree simultaneously and is a
former editor of the Suffolk
Law Review.
The lecture is open to the
public, and there is no
charge. The building is
wheelchair accessible.

Rabbi Joseph Gutmann
will address the senior adults
on "The History, Art and
Culture of Sephardic Jewry"
at 12:45 p.m today in Jaffe
Hall of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center's Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch.
The Erev Shabbos program
at 1:30 p.m. today in Jaffe
Hall of the JPM Branch will
feature Phyllis Bratt, accom-
panied by Celia Dzodin.
A bus will leave the JPM
Branch at 1:30 p.m.. Sunday
to go to the main Jewish
Center for the Senior Mac-
cabiah Games. There is a
charge.
A new physical education
group, Yoga in a Chair, will
begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday

in the JPM assembly hall.
Irma Starr will conduct the
group.
The first program in a
three-part workshop entitled,
Ask Your Agency, will take
place at 1 p.m. Tuesday in
the JPM assembly hall. The
film, The Al Jolson Story,
will be shown at 2 p.m. Tues-
day in the JPM assembly
hall.
The Music Lovers Hour, a
classical music appreciation
group, will meet at 10:45
a.m. Thursday in room 15 of
the JPM Branch, conducted
by Vivian Stollman.
Everyone is welcome at no
charge.
Dr. Luba Berton will speak
on "Support for the Russian
Refuseniks Through Corre-
spondence" at 12:45 p.m. Oct.
3 in Jaffe Hall of the JPM
Branch.

Nelson Conducts
Trip To Israel

Rabbi David Nelson

A pilgrimage tour of Israel
will be led by Rabbi David A.
Nelson of Cong. Beth Shalom
from Nov. 30 to Dec. 14.
Rabbi Nelson has planned
the trip with Travel Un-
limited, Inc. of Southfield.
Rabbi Nelson was
graduated from the Jewish
Theological Seminary in
1967, and spent "a year of
study in Israel. He spent two
years as assistant rabbi at
A.R.I. Synagogue in Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil. He then re-
turned to the United States
and went to Chizuk Amuno
in Baltimore, Md., as assis-
tant and associate rabbi for
three years.
Since 1972, Rabbi Nelson
has served as spiritual leader
of Beth Shalom.
He has led two six-week
youth pilgrimages to Israel,
and four congregational trips.
