Faces o Our Community

Jewish Community Center at 60

I

t all started with newly arrived immigrants
needing to learn English and with young
women being taught to type so they could earn
a living.

The 60 years of partnership that Federation
has shared with its member agencies has
special meaning for the Jewish Community
Center, also founded in 1926. Over the years,
wherever Jews settled, there was a Center at
the hub of activity.

To this day, the Center provides for the leisure-
time recreation, social, informal educational
and cultural needs of the Jewish community.

At the West Bloomfield and Oak Park sites, all
ages participate in holiday celebrations,
classes, clubs, athletic programs and corn-
munity-wide events.
