THE REV. JOHN S. GRAUEL

A True Hero Of Israel
He died in his home in Roosevelt, N.J. on a
Sabbath evening in August. He was an ordained
Methodist minister who volunteered in behalf of
the Jewish People in the dark, historic days of
1947. He was an active crew member of the
Haganah ship "Exodus."
He gave up a ministry and the comfort of life
in Maine to join up with the American Jewish
crew. He testified at the United Nations hearings
that were discussing the feasibility of the Jewish
State. His dramatic presentation for the need of a
Jewish homeland and his graphic account of the
voyage of the 'Exodus" marked a turning point in
the United Nations, according to Golda Meir.
Up to the time of his death he continued work-
ing in behalf of the good for the State of Israel. He
will be missed and hopefully remembered by his
friends and shipmates all over the world who
knew his deeds.
