The following year, with support from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and scholarships from Juilliard and the Helena Rubinstein Foundation, Zukerman came to New York to study with Ivan Galamian at the Juilliard School. Stern con- tinued to watch over Zuker- man, and shared his musical expertise with him. In 1967, at 19, Zukerman won first prize in the 25th Leventritt International Competition. Labor Unit Cites Cohan, Sheffield The Jewish Labor Commit- tee of Michigan will present its annual Labor Human Rights Award at 8 p.m. Sept. 29 at the home of Mrs. Irwin I. Cohn, 3235 Interlaken, West Bloomfield. The recipients of this year's awards are Horace L. Shef- field and Leon S. Cohan. Cohan is vice president of legal affairs at Detroit Edison and former deputy attorney general for the state of Michigan. He is president of the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan De- troit. Sheffield is the retired ad- ministrative assistant to , former UAW president Doug- las Fraser. He is chairman of the board of Detroit General Hospital and is host of a weekly television show on Ch. 2. The Jewish Labor Commit- tee has a long history as a bridge between organized labor and the Jewish com- munity. The JLC marshals support within the Jewish community for free trade unions, economic justice and the social goals of the labor movement.
