French Officials
Meet With PLO
Paris (JTA) — Foreign
Minister Jean-Bernard
Raimond has been meeting
with PLO representatives
here to assure them that
France wishes to see the PLO
"associated with an overall
settlement" of the Middle
East situation that would
allow for "the Palestinian
people to exercise its right of
self-determination."
Raimond conveyed this
view last week at a meeting
with PLO representative Ib-
rahim Souss. Souss requested
the meeting after Prime
Minister Jacques Chirac re-
portedly told an Israeli jour-
nalist that he opposed the
creation of a Palestinian
state. A Foreign Ministry
spokesman said Raimond re-
peated France's principle be-
hind a Mideast peace settle-
ment, based mainly on the
right to security and justice
for all states in the region.

"Our point of reference is
that if (NRPH) can provide
services inside the facility
like they do for other groups,
that -is legitimate. If not, that
is discriminatory in practice."
While Dr. Brown has been
forthcoming in resolving
other religious problems —
changing the locks on the
Jewish chapel and providing
Rabbi Gordon with a key to
the ward — Rabbi Gordon
views the status quo at the
facility as unacceptable.
"I told Father Kukulski,
`I'll have Sabbath services on
Thursday when you have
yours on Wednesday.' "
According to Jeanne Laur-
ence, staff attorney at Michi-
gan Protection and Advocacy
Service, a letter has been
sent to Diana Censoni, state
director of the psychiatric
hospitals bureau, detailing
the history of contacts be-
tween the service, Jewish
representatives and the
NRPH and requesting that
extra efforts be made on be-
half of the facility's Jewish
patients.
No further meetings have
been requested or scheduled.

Newspapers'
Appeal Fails
Jerusalem (JTA) — The
High Court of Justice over-
ruled the appeal by two East
Jerusalem newspapers of the
order to close them down.
The daily Al-Mithak and the
periodical
Al-Ahd
had
petitioned the court to re-
scind the closure order by the
Interior Ministry which
claimed that the publications
were promoting anti-Israel
views. This was denied by the
owners of the two publica-
tions.
