Frank adds that headwraps also continue to be highly-popular. Those shown at Roz and Sherm are colored leathers or colored jerseys and include some styles flecked with rhinestones. Jewelry, is the accessory which has probably grown most in importance since last season. Pins, bracelets, necklaces, earrings are usually oversized and highly-dramatic in design. For a bold fashion statement, this is the route to take. Classic gold looks good, along with shiny silver, and matte-finish silver, resembling pewter. Pewter itself is important, too, and many gold and silver mixes are seen. Some of the brightest stars of the season are colorful "gems." In eye-catching combinations of royal blues, purples, ruby reds, emerald greens, the stones are often accompanied by the highly-popular diamond mimics, cubic zirconia. "Along with the rich, jewel colors, there's a lot of jewelry in the basically classic colors," emphasizes Lea Beurer, owner of Begadim in West Bloomfield. Many designs are being shown in tortoise shell, onyx, cut crystal, mother-of-pearl, just to name a few. One distinctive lapel pin at Begadim is in gold tones and deep, bourbon shades. "We're also seeing pearls, and chains — a kind of Chanel look," says Frank. "There's a lot of what I like to call 'faux deco' influence this season. It's classic in design, but it's a kind of playful design, too." Karen Spector at Karma Kreations in Esther & Estelle's (W. Bloomfield) sees this season's styling in much the same way, calling it "Fun, but elegant." "We're seeing sterling silver," she says.
