IC lothes this fall were designed with kids in mind. They're comfortable, colorful, oversized and fun! Fleece (that's shop talk for sweatshirts) will be the hottest item this fall for boys and girls. In fact, Shirley Davis, manager of the boys department at Saks in the Somerset Mall, predicts, "Fleece will be tremendous. It's bound to be our biggest sports wear item. We're getting in outfits in bright colors: reds, oranges and yellows." Marc Shindler, owner of Brody's Boys and Young Men's Wear in West Bloomfield, explains that this year's fleece is special. "We've got a lot of puff paint fleece with matching pants. (Puff paint is paint that hardens into a raised, rubbery look. It's used for printing words and for coloring in drawings on the sweats.) "We're also selling sweatshirt tops made of three different materials — fleece, satin and corduroy. This look will be popular." Fleece is also looking very collegiate. Shindler says, "This is the season for sweatshirts with all kinds of university seals and fraternity and sorority letters." The Rugger look will also be popular in fleece, Rugger is a type of rugby shirt, or collegiate shirt with a hard white collar, banded bottom and wide stripes. What else will boys wear to school this fall? Shindler says, "We're selling a lot of stone wash jeans in the big fall colors, black and grey." Davis at Saks says, "Guess denim with the straight, tight leg is still very popular. New this year, Guess denim will have leather trim on the pockets." How about cords? Shindler says, "Cords are basically dead. But we will sell a few Levi's cords and baggy pleated cords." Davis explains, "Kids like to be comfortable and not wear too much that's confining.
