Evening dazzle came from
black velvet dresses in
shoulder-baring styles;
sweaters embroidered with
feathers, sequins and jewels;
and leather jacket/velvet skirt
combinations.
From Emanuel Ungaro came
longer hemlines for daytime,
and even his fitted styles had
plenty of ease. Colors were
bright and contrasting. He
mixed a black velvet skirt with
a pale green jacket; the jacket
had black printed dots and a
high collar trimmed in velvet.
The outfit came with a match-
ing camisole. Staples of his
collection were a black and

white checkered jacket, a grey
wool suit, and a black turtle-
neck top.
Ungaro brought back the
bustle for evening, in show-
stopping velvet gowns with
bows and big puffs of taffeta
swathing the hips. Less
dramatic evening styles in-
cluded black velvet dresses
with poufy sleeves and skirts;
black lace suits with strapless
hammered silver bodices; and
slender white satin dresses
worn with overscaled taffeta
capes.
