5 Lookin Good Wherein a reporter visits local salons for a new look BY SANDRA MAURER 18 Jewish News I n preparing for this article, one of the two salons that I chose to visit was the Michel Kazan Salon in Bonwit Teller in the Somerset Mall. The manager, Pat Aebersold told me "When you first walked through the door, I saw that The Jewish News had sent the perfect candidate for a make-over." Wow, talk about a rude awakening! I had always thought that I had looked the best as possible but a long, honest look in the mirror revealed that there was a "new me" just waiting to be discovered. It never occurred to me that to spend a day in a spa or salon was within my grasp. It seemed a luxurious advantage that other people could afford. How could I justify spending a whole day (or even a partial day) being pampered when other pressing priorities lurk on the horizon: work, children, keeping up the household, the list is endless. However, as I soon realized, that is the very reason to take the time to do something revitalizing for yourself. The first step is in deciding where you want to go. Susan Miarka, esthetician at Michel Kazan Salon in Bonwit Teller sums it up. "I think it's more word of mouth. I know people who have had very bad experiences. With a haircut, for example, when they wanted one inch taken off and happen to get two inches off, they won't come to the salon anymore, that's it, they're gone. So, I would say the recommendation of a satisfied client is the best." A day at Mira Linder Spa in the City includes facial and neck treatments, body massage with bio-sauna, manicure, pedicure, parafin foot treatment, eyebrow arch, scalp treatment, hair styling, make-up application. A light lunch is also served. A day at the Michel Kazan Salon includes much the same excluding the sauna. At both the salon and spa, a
