Fleischman estimates that its
store sold at least 500 pairs of
socks last year, and it is loading
up for the fall on everything from
loosely knitted cotton solids to
rhinestone-trimmed anklets.

However, there are those
special occasions when an
out-of-the-ordinary outfit is
required, and there are items that
are available for teens who like,
and can afford, that special dash
of luxury. Saks Fifth Avenue is
featuring suede dresses, again
nearly to the ankle and,
sleeveless, with a high neck and
a barely shaped waist, in a range
of jewel-like colors. "A nice pump
and a few pieces of jewelry will
make you feel like a million," says
Dawn Lindsay, assistant
Manager.

At Ingenue, Lois Rubin is
featuring a leather for that special
look. "Our store is publishing a
32-page fall catalogue for the first
time, and we have leather pieces
featured, pants, skirts, even a
jumpsuit — all in black. But it is
not a look for young college kids."

Colors have taken a
conservative turn as well. Earth
tones are out, and black, grey,
red, and winter white
predominate. Ingenue's Lois
Rubin is excited about the
popularity of a new color — a
deep rich, inky indigo blue that is
combined with gray. "It is a nice
addition to all of the black, white
and red we have been featuring.
We haven't had a blue that has
been this popular in a long time,"
she says. "Up to now blue was
reserved strictly for denim."

All in all, fall '86 is neat, but not
preppy. Lois Rubin says that she
has not featured a close fitting
navy blazer in her store in years.
"We do a fashionable look here at
our store. Career-dressing is
another story altogether," says
Mrs. Rubin.
