Shenkar College students of
fashion design created a
window display for a project.

Technology and Fashion,
established in 1970, offers a
bachelor's degree in, among
other fields, fashion design. The
four year institute has a strictly
limited enrollment with, currently,
350 full-time day students and
another 200 students attending
evening lectures and special
courses.
Shenkar's fashion design pro-
gram is unusual in that students
not only learn design techniques
but the technical aspects of pro-
duction, too. For the first two
years, students learn through a
"hands on" approach, using
basic equipment. They then ad-
vance to working with such high
tech equipment as the com-
puterized knitting machine and
the state-of-the-art Shima Seiki
Design System.
The Design System allows the
student to design a garment
directly on its computer screen.
The student may bring to the
computer an already formulated
design, either an original or
