Tauber will deliver his an- nual report, and a new president will be elected at Federation's 60th annual meeting and birthday cele- bration, 6 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Maple/Drake Jewish Community Center. Among the meeting's high- lights will be the presenta- tion of the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Award to David Handleman. The Award is the Jewish community's highest honor for service. Previous recipients of the Butzel Award and former presidents of Federation will also be recognized that eve- ning. Another highlight will be the presentation of standing displays depicting the work of Federation and its service agencies over the years. Using historic and current photos, the displays are an anniversary gift from Federa- tion to each of its member agencies. They will be shown in the lobby of the Center through Sept. 21, and then donated to their respective agencies and to the Butzel Building, to stand as a per- manent exhibit. During the business por- tion of the meeting, the Board of Governors election and installation will take place. Nominated to the Board for an additional three-year term are James M. Set for 9 a.m. to noon at the Maple/Drake Jewish Community Center, the meet- ing will feature Senator Howard M. Metzenbaum of Ohio, the U.S. Senate's rank- ing Jewish member. Chairmen of the day are Shelby Tauber and Peter A. Alter. The program includes breakfast, a presentation of the "Case for '87", a series of six workshops — for new and veteran volunteers — led by members of Federation's Campaign and budgeting and planning divisions, and re- marks by Sen. Stag Day On Wednesday In recognition of the De- troit Service Group's 60 years of service to the Allied Jewish Campaign, chairman N. Brewster Broder is plan- ning a special Stag Day. Set for Wednesday at Franklin Hills Country Club, the 37th annual Stag Day thanks the hundreds of vol- unteers who worked on the 1986 Allied Jewish Cam- paign. After golf and tennis, workers will have an awards dinner honoring the Cam- paign leadership team of Stanley D. Frankel and Paul D. Borman. Previous Allied Jewish Campaign chairmen and Detroit Service Group presidents will also be hon- ored. Tourism Decline Reported Jerusalem (JTA) — The number of tourists arriving in Israel in the first six months of this year was 531,900, as compared with 649,200 in the same period last year — a decline of 19 percent, the Cen- tral Bureau of Statistics reported last week. During the first six months of 1986, 448,600 tourists ar- rived by air, as compared with 559,900 in the same period in 1985 — a decline of 20 per- cent — while 75,800 tourists arrived in the same period last year.
