George Glassman of Glassman Oldsmobile-Saab.

Glassman's 2.75 Plan
Beat GM And Nation

Staff Report

A little extra effort to sell
automobiles has focussed
nationwide media attention
on Glassman Oldsmobile in
Southfield. CBS Evening
News, CBS Radio, U.S. News
and World Report, Automo-
tive News, Cable Network
News, and many local radio
and television stations have
covered the dealership's
trendsetting three-day 2.75
financing program last week.
The Glassman offering pre-
ceded General Motors' 2.9
percent annual percentage
rate financing program.
George Glassman told The
Jewish News that "some
analysts infer that, being in
Detroit, some people in the
GM Building were monitor-
ing the situation and saw
that we were moving cars in
a soft market. But General
Motors always has incentive
plans at this time of year,
and there is no way that I
can take credit."
What Glassman did accom-
plish on Aug. 25-28, was to
sell nearly 200 cars. "It was a
month's worth of cars in
three days," he said. "And
then the GM progam (2.9)
picked up at an opportune
time. It is 'keeping us ex-
tremely busy and the cus-
tomers are receiving a tre-
mendous benefit. They are
getting a much lower
monthly payment with these
programs."
The Southfield dealership
has already received a few
1987 General Motors' auto-
mobiles, but has not yet been
given permission to sell the
new models. Nationally, GM
dealers have a backlog of one
million 1986 cars to sell.
Glassman estimates his
1986 GM inventory at 460-
480 vehicles.
Last spring, Glassman was
one of the first dealerships to
break the six percent barrier,

offering 5.75 percent last
April when GM was at 9.9.
Glassman believes the new
2.9 program will reduce his
inventory, and GM's national
backlog, because "it is a good,
comprehensive program."
The lower financing, and
the media attention, is keep-
ing the Glassman showroom
busy. "It has been crazy,"
Glassman said, ... fortu-
nately."
