Sinai Hospital was estab-
lished as a result of years of
work of many members of the
Jewish community. Until last
week, contributors to the Al-
lied Jewish Campaign could
vote for Sinai Hospital trus-
tees at the annual meeting.
Under the new Sinai organ-
ization by-laws, only the
Board of Trustees can desig-
nate the membership.
The Jewish community of
Greater Detroit now has no
say in the management of
what once was their hospital.
A self-perpetuating group is
now running it.
Shareholders of GM, Ford
and other corporations elect
directors at their annual
meeting; the Jews of Detroit,
the "stockholders of Sinai,"
cannot. I do not wish to im-
pute any sinister motives to
the present Board of Trus-
tees; I simply do not under-
stand why the public was
disenfranchised. What is the
advantage to the hospital?

the Latin proverb. De mortuis
