Born in Russia, Mr. Snyder lived 42 years in Detroit. He was an historian and educator and wrote critical essays on Yiddish and Hebrew litera- ture. Mr. Snyder was the author of many books, his latest being Literary and Historical Essays, published in 1984. He was the editor of Undzer Aygn Vort, a monthly Yiddish literary magazine. He was co- editor of the magazine Y id- dishe Dertsiung (Jewish Edu- cation), authored study guides for the study of American Jewish history, wrote a study of Moses Hess and contributed to numerous periodicals. Mr. Snyder was a founder of Hillel Day School and past chairman of its education committee. For many years he served on the Hillel Day School board. In 1976, he sat on the committee to publish Hebrew works by the late Mr. Bernard Isaacs. He was a member of the Labor Zionist Alliance and was on the Yiddish committee of the Jewish Community Cen- ter.
