Twins Bar Mitzvah

David Jared Newman, son of
Linda and Howard Newman of
West Bloomfield,. will become
bar mitzvah on Aug. 30 at
Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel
Moses at 9 a.m.
David is twinning his bar
mitzvah with Leonid Aronson
of the USSR. Leonid's father,
Adolph, was charged with
bribe-taking and went to trial
in 1979. The Aronsons have
been consistently denied per-
mission to emigrate to Israel.

David will be an eighth
grader at Orchard Lake Middle
School in the fall. The out-of-
town guests will come from
Chicago, Ill.; Paramus, N.J.;

Michigan PNAI
Group To Meet

The Michigan Chapter, Par-
ents of North American Is-
raelis (PNAI), will hold its
third annual picnic on Sunday
at 2 p.m. at the lake home of
Fran and Marty Scheer, 6277
Walnut Lake Road, West
Bloomfield. Those attending
are requested to bring their
own food. Barbecues will be set
up and coffee, tea and kosher
pastries will be provided.
Two videos will be available
for viewing. The first shows
Cantor Israel Maroko singing
with the choir at the Great
Synagogue of Amsterdam
(circa 1936). Dr. Simon
Maroko, Cantor Maroko's son,
is a Michigan PNAI member
and has provided the tape,
copied from a 40-year-old
sound movie. The second tape
was produced by the Ameri-
cans and Canadians in Israel
(AACI) titled Contributions of

North American Israelis to Is-
raeli Society.

All children living in Israel
visiting their local parents are
invited with their families. All
parents of children living in Is-
rael are invited.

Arab-Jewish
Group To Meet

American Arabic and
Jewish Friends will hold a
lunch meeting at noon Thurs-
day at the Greater Detroit In-
terfaith Round Table of the
National Conference of Chris-
tians and Jews, 150 W. Boston
at Second Blvd. Discussion will
center on local violence and
what to do about it.
The organization's dinner
will take place at 7 p.m., Dec. 4.
There is a charge.
