Lounge was three months in stage of modernizing . . . finished June . . . with brass rails above the bar, wall paint- ings, huge wine rack behind bar,_ covered by etched glass doors. Chairs and booths are same upholstery . . . also bar stools . . . in what is now an intimate, cozy room . . . No more opening from lounge to dining room .. . It has been closed and mir- rored. Angela Primo of the noted Primo family, entertains through Friday, 5. p.m. to 8 p.m. . . . and played for us the first song she ever learned .. . Ain't She Sweet . . . from Uncle George Primo when only two years old. Angela is doing her first solo piano bar engagement in many years . . . and is one of the orig- inal eight Primo children famous during the '60s .. . Angela and her brother Angelo, now doing the score for a John Candy film, are still in the music business. With their father, Antonio, the Primo children appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and played Las Vegas and Tahoe. Angela is now also partner in a Pleasant Ridge recording studio . . . composing and pro- ducing numerous radio com- mercials and industrial films and programs . . . At one time, she used to play at the piano bar of Nifty Norman's in Commerce Lake. Dave Henning is on Monday and Tuesday from 8 p.m. til 1:30 a.m.. . . and Bob Elliott at the same hours Wednesday through Saturday. Dinner in the Empire Room was superb . . . as Charlie Du- bin, who is beginning 19th year at Kingsley, wafts his beautiful background keyboard magic with relaxed deftness Tuesday through Saturdays. High paded burgundy booth was class setting for an excel- lent dinner . . . with prelude of garlic toast and fresh cold car- rots, celery, onions and radishes. Then the wondrous shrimp bisque made at Kingsley .. . followed by Dino Negru, res- taurant manager and maitre d' making a beautiful Caesar salad at tableside . . . which we tastefully devoured with a dry and alive Jaboulet Vercherre Pouilly-Fuissel. Glass plates are used . . . placed upon pewter underplat- ters from the Nick Takis days . . . with Kingsley Inn's crest . . . There are three dining rooms . . . The Hill, The Em- pire and The Crown . . . We dined in The Empire Room with its long burgundy drapes, burgundy booths, well-spaced tables and chairs and chan- deliers imported from Vienna. Then Dino deboned tableside our fresh pieces of Dover sole and sturgeon . . . The Dover sole is flown in daily by Kings- ley . . . and has a taste all its own . . . so light, tender and elegantly delicious . . . The sturgeon, served with bernaise sauce, is a heavier texture, but -truly a classic fish . . . Many former steak eaters have turned to sturgeon whenever it is available. Wine with the fishes was a 'L delicate bouquet Voudray by Frederick Waldman & Sons. ( We passed up the scrumpti- ous dessert cart that made many eyes in the room bulge . . . But not a Napoleon Camus cognac in warmed glass that capped the evening with a fine cigar. Our waitress, Ann Oullette, was patient, efficient and most personable . . . She brought us memories of when she was at the Sheraton-Cadillac downtown with Executive Chef Mark Schmidt and Cater- ing Manager Herman Schwartz . . . Ann also worked at the Standard Club when it was at the Sheraton-Cadillac . . . She has been at Kingsley six years . . . eight years at Sheraton-Cadillac. Tom Feckov, captain, and Dino together speak about nine languages . . . and often call each other over to inter- pret when foreign persons come_ into Kingsley. Tom has been at Kingsley 12 years . . . and previously ran the Motor Bar at Sheraton- Cadillac . . . plus working the Standard Club. Dino was part of the team that opened Northfield Hilton . . . and stayed there five years . . . then one-and-a-half years at Knollwood Country Club .. . and four years at Kingsley. The Old World look of re- fined gracefulness is a trademark at Kingsley Inn .. . founded by Nick Takis . . . and opened:in 1948. This September, Kingsley Inn will add another new look . . . its west wing . . . the hotel will have 70 additional rooms and suites plus new enclosed pool replacing one being torn out . . . whirlpool and new out- door courtyard. LITTLE OLD HOUSE stands on the corner of Pitt and Janette in Windsor . . . built in the 1880s and solid as a rock . . . It was originally a home owned by Hiram Walker . . then a four-plex . . . and after being completely gutted, a lit- tle authentic French restau rant with just 36 seats. It's called Maddie's .. opened July 23 . . . so very cozy, quaint and most interesting . . . It hasn't been discovered yet by too many . . . but the in- timate little restaurant serves only authentic French cuisine . . . In fall, it will be expanded to two rooms with an addi- tional 30 or so more seats. MARY SCHWARTZ grandmother of Gary Schwartz, owner of new McDonald's eatery on Green-
