Testimony Sought
On Demjanjuk
I am currently preparing a
book on the life and experi-
ences of John Demjanjuk, a
former American citizen of
Ukrainian birth, who has been
extradited to Israel by the
United States Office of Inter-
national Affairs (OIA) and is
not awaiting trial.
This writer would be most
appreciative in hearing, in
English, Yiddish or in Polish,
from any survivors of the Nazi
death camps located in
Sobibor, Treblinka, Chelmno
or Belzec in the Lublin district
of Poland.
John Demjanjuk is accused
of being "Ivan the Terrible"
and from my investigation of
the records recently made
available to me, (I was a
trained army strategic intelli-
gence specialist), some re-
visionist evidence' has been
"uncovered" to make it appear
that Demjanjuk is not the man.
This may be the reason why
the State of Israel has kept him
imprisoned for almost five

Common Humanity
Seen In Summit
Your editorial "Beyond
Rhetoric" (Aug. 1), concerning
the talks between Shimon
Peres and King Hassan of
Morocco to further Mideast
peace efforts was a sound ap-
praisal. Moreover, you drew
comfort from the fact that a
Jewish leader, Hyman Book-
binder, and an Arab ex-U.S.
Senator, James Abourezk, ap-
peared jointly before a con-
gressional committee inves-
tigating excesses against
American Arabs in this coun-
try. And that there was a note
of amiability as the two shared
the same table and mic-
rophone, as they testified. It is,
I believe, an ingenious obser-
vation. In human affairs em-
phasis were well placed on our
common humanity amenable
to the will and purposes of our
common Father in Heaven.
A moral along such lines was
intended to be drawn by a
scene in Fiddler on the Roof.
On one side of the stage was a
group of Chassidim, with robes
flowing and tzitzis dangling,
dancing demRebben's tanz. On
the other side was a group of
Russian Muzhiks, with balloon
trousers and high shining
boots doing the kosatzke. No
two aggregations of individu-
als could be more alien to one
another.
Gradually, however, the two
groups began edging to each
other, then intermixing. Fi-
nally Chassid and Muzhik,
arms interwined were jointly
responding to the musical
rhythm. It was a manifesta-
tion, in fiction, of the univer-
sality of the human spirit as
expressed in that rhythm. Per-
haps a lesson can be had from
this, as intended by the author,
in real life.

This man is walking away
from a heart attack.
A heart attack he never had.
Because his doctor recog-
nized signs of his heart trouble
and sent him to Sinai Hospital,
one of the world's leading heart
centers.
It was the right first step.
The Sinai cardiac team spe-
cializes in helping patients stay
on their feet. And getting back
on their feet after a heart attack.
In fact, last year alone we
performed over 500 open heart

surgeries. We even pioneered
new techniques for angioplasty,
a procedure which helps many
patients avoid surgery.
In this case, we stepped in
with testing, therapy and indi-
vidualized treatment. So he can
walk away from his heart ail-
ment as fast as his feet will
carry him.
For doctor referral, call Sinai
at 1-800-248-DOCS.
