Sinai Hospital of Detroit has
announced the appointment of
new chairmen of two of its medi-
cal departments.
Dr. David Schwartz has been
named chairman of the Depart-
ment of Obstetrics/Gynecology,
replacing Dr. Milton Goldrath
who stepped down after holding
the chairmanship since 1975.
Dr. Solomon R. Hochbaum has
been named chairman of the new
Department of Emergency
Medicine.
Dr. Schwartz joined Sinai in
September 1984 as director of
Maternal/Fetal Medicine. He be-
came associate chairman of the
department in July 1985.
He was responsible for re-
establishing a high-risk preg-
nancy clinic, developing a high-
risk consultation service, and
educating residents in the de-
partment. Dr. Schwartz was in-
strumental in developing Sinai's
new Genetics Clinic and the Pre-
term Delivery Prevention Pro-
gram.
He received his medical degree
from Witwatersrand University
in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Dr. Hochbaum has been acting
as director of Emergency Services

The Department of Psychiatry
of Sinai Hospital has opened a
Day Hospital in the Jewish
Community Center in West
Bloomfield for individuals who
suffer from depression, anxiety,
schizophrenia, psychosomatic ill-
ness, and self esteem and rela-
tionship difficulties.
The Day Hospital is a short
term multidisciplinary program
which provides a structured
environment, emotional support
and stimulation for positive
change. The program encourages
independence, personal responsi-
bility and self-confidence. Par-
ticipants are also able to take ad-
vantage of the Center's ceramics
room, woodworking shop, gym-
nasium, racquetball courts and
pool.
Individuals attending the Day
Hospital program must be at
least 18 years old and participate
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday
through Friday. Some people are
admitted following inpatient
psychiatric hospitalization, while
others are admitted directly from
the community.
The program will be housed
near the Center's administrative
offices and will have a capacity of
25.

Prenatal Classes

In the coming weeks, Sinai
Hospital of Detroit is offering
several classes for expectant and
new parents at its Detroit cam-
pus.
Classes in prenatal care,
