Reagan Liaisons
In Low Esteem

Washington(JTA) — Relations
between the Reagan Administra-
tion and American Jewish lead-
ers are now at rock bottom," ac-
cording to syndicated columnist
Jack Anderson in an article
which appeared Monday in the
Washington Post.
The "latest affront," said An-
derson, has been the downgrad-
ing of the White House office of
liaison with the Jewish commu-
nity. Furthermore, Anderson
said that "in the eyes of some
Jews," liaison Max Green "is
subordinate to Linas Kojelis, a
Lithuanian American who has of-
fended Jewish leaders."
"Kojelis is a strong advocate of
Eastern European ethnic groups
that have urged the dissolution of
the Justice Department's Nazi-
hunting Office of Special Investi-
gations," Anderson wrote. "They
charge that the office is a dupe of
the Soviet KGB."
Anderson also wrote that
"faced with the growing influence
of Kojelis at the White House,
Jewish leaders — even those who
welcomed abolishing the Jewish
liaison office — are dismayed.
There is no evidence that Kojelis
himself is anti-Semitic, but he
had provided entree to the high-
est circles of the administration
for Eastern European refugee
groups tainted by anti-
Semitism."

Jerusalem(JTA) — A group of
19 Egyptian agronomists has
begun a three-week stay in Israel
to take part in courses on irriga-
tion methods. The group will be
staying in Tel Aviv.
Israel sources maintain that
the visit is a sign of Cairo's desire
to improve ties with Israel, on the
assumption that the Taba com-
promise is about to be signed and
a general thaw in the cold peace
will follow.

St. Louis (JTA) — The South-
western Bell Foundation has do-
nated $125,000 to programs for
the elderly at the Jewish Hospi-
tal at Washington University
Medical Center. The funds will be
used to develop educational pam-
phlets on subjects relating to the
health of the elderly, including
exercise, nutrition, and home
hazards.
