Rabbi Daniel Pernick
Rabbi Daniel L. Pernick of
Beth Am Temple in Pearl River,
N.J., will occupy the pulpit of
Temple Israel at 8 p.m. today.
He will speak on the topic,
"The Merits of •Moral Mate-
rialism."
Rabbi Pernick is a native De-
troiter, the son of Lawrence and
Anne Pernick, of Southfield. He
grew up at Temple Israel where
he was a bar mitzvah, confirmed
and graduated.
Ordained at Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of Reli-
gion in 1981, he served as assis-
tant rabbi at Temple Emanuel in
Worcester, Mass., before assum-
ing his own pulpit this past year.
At the service, the newly-born
Shaarey Zedek United
Synagogue Youth (SZUSY) will
visit the Waterford Oaks wave
pool, 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The
group will meet at the Sentry
Drugs parking lot at Maple and
Telegraph. Deadline for reserva-
tions is Sunday.
SZUSY will visit Cedar Point
amusement park Aug. 12. The
deadline for reservations is Mon-
day. There will also be an excur-
sion to Pennsylvania Aug. 17-25.
There is a charge for all three
events.

Bais Chabad Opens
Torah Tape Library-
Bais Chabad Torah Center's
Torah tape lending library is now
open to the public. Located at
5595 W. Maple Rd., the library's
hours are 8-9 p.m.
In addition to a large assort-
ment of Mishna, Parsha and
Midrash tapes, the library con-
tains a special section on Jewish
philosophy, mysticism and
Tanya. The library also contains
a Holocaust section.
