Herbert Maistelman
Herbert M. Maistelman has as-
sumed the position of executive
director of Temple Beth El in
Birmingham.
Maistelman, a Cleveland na-
tive, has experience in adminis-
tration and programming. He
comes to Detroit from Richmond,
Va., where he was executive di-
rector of the Jewish Community
Center. He had previously served
in similar capacities with the
Jewish Community Centers of
Cleveland, Ohio, and
Marblehead, Mass.
Maistelman did his under-
graduate work at the State Uni-
versity of New York at Cortland
and received his master's degree
in school administration from
Syracuse University. He com-
pleted his doctoral studies in
adult education at Ohio State
University.
Rabbis Named
For HUC Honors
Rabbis M. Robert Syme and
Harold S. Loss of Temple Israel
and Rabbi Leonard Kasle of
Franklin were honored with fel-
low members of the President's
Alumni Circle during the rab-
binic alumni luncheon of the He-
brew Union College-Jewish Insti-
tute of Religion.
The President's Alumni Circle
is composed of rabbis who have
shown extraordinary support of
the college-institute's Year-in-
Israel program. This special pro-
gram, begun 16 years ago, re-
quires all rabbinic students to
spend their first year of seminary
training studying Hebrew at the
Jerusalem School of the HUC-
JIR.
Officers Elected
At Beth Shalom
Jeannette Tilchin was re-
elected president of Cong. Beth
Shalom at its annual congrega-
tional meeting.
Elected with her were: Mark
Voight, executive vice president;
Richard Berg, Harry Freind and
Milton Gorelick, vice presidents;
RhOda Krauss, treasurer; Phyllis
Young, recording secretary.
Elected to the board of trustees
were: Cary Adelman, Sidney
Barack, Sy Finkelstein, Char-
lotte Finstein, Arthur Langer,
Herman Ozrovitz, Matilda Rubin
and Jay Waldman.
