It was hot fun on a summer's eve at the Jewish Community Center Julie Gurwin Abererto Basirico, Freda Magnus, Jack Lipton, Nancy Fordonski, Michael Fordonski HEIDI PRESS Local News Editor DAVID HOLZEL Staff Writer 3. :7 Threatening gray skies and in- tense humidity didn't stop 500-plus party goers from munching on hot dogs and hamburgers, dancing and just plain schmoozing at the Jewish Community Center's annual barbecue and pool party last week. Dressed in styles ranging from Hawaiian shirts to loungewear, the hundreds who populated the outdoor patio at the main Jewish Center came to meet new people, or renew old friendships. Sponsored by the Community Network for Jewish Singles and the Center Health Club, the party was originally a health club member-only affair, according to Center Program Director Marty Oliff. But as singles began to form a larger part of the health club membership, "it was a natural idea to have both groups out here," he said. To feed such a large crowd, the Center ordered 250 pounds of ground beef, 100 pounds of hot dogs, one dozen watermelons, 600 pieces of cake, 1,000 cups of pop, 700 servings of salad and all the trimmings for the hamburgers and hot dogs. No word at press time as to the quantity of potato chips munched. The intense summer heat didn't prevent the guests from having a good time. With a d.j. spinning tunes, lots of food and folks to talk to, and the pool close by for a quick dip, there was plenty to do. E.J.
