Susan Citrin, president of the Jewish Family Service, reported that the agency passed the ac- creditation with outstandingly high ratings. It received a number one rating indicating "full compliance with the criteria set by the Council on Accreditation in all the major areas under review." There were 362 separate ratings covering all of the agen- cy's services and the agency was in full or substantial compliance in 361 items, or 99.7 percent. She also noted that the agency received the highest possible ratings on organization and ad- ministration of the agency and its volunteer services. Jewish Family Service is sup- ported by the United. Founda- tion, by the Jewish Welfare Federation, as well as from fees for service determined on a slid- ing scale basis according to abil- ity to pay. The Council on Accreditation has accredited the agency for a period through July 31, 1989. The guest artist this year will be Shoshana Ron, accompanied by Toma Schwartz. Ms. Ron was born in Poland and raised in Russia and Israel. She has ap- peared as actress-singer with the Ben Bonus troupe, touring through-out the U.S. and Canada, performing in more that 50 cities as well as on Broadway. Ms. Ron has performed at every venue from Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York to Salle Claude Cham- pagne in Montreal, from Town Hall in New York City to the Wilshire in Los Angeles. Also appearing will be Mack Pitt and his Orchestra. The in- strumental music for this occa- sion is made possible by funds supplied by the recording com- panies of America through the Music Performances Trust Fund. Bring chairs and sunshade. • Oak Park Mayor Charlotte Rothstein helped approve the passage of a resolution by U.S. mayors asking the city. officials to join in pressing the Soviet Union to allow Soviet Jews to emigrate. Mrs. Rothstein presented a copy of the resolution, adopted at the U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting, to the Detroit Soviet Jewry Committee of the Jewish Community Coun- cil. The resolution calls on Ameri- can mayors to use any contacts they may have with Soviet offi- cials to encourage emigration requests and to assist in any ar- rangements necessary for the emigration and resettlement of Soviet Jews or others in their cities. The resolution, also, urged the United States government to in- corporate "this human rights issue in any foreign policy de- liberations it might have with the Soviets". It was unanim- ously approved by the 150 mayoral delegates to the con- vention.
