Where's The Help
When Needed?

I read in The Jewish News of
June 27, ("Caring For The
Aged") the trouble the Yamron
family had with the various
Jewish agencies when his father
became very ill and it became
necessary to look for outside
help. It reminded me of the time
when my wife was ill and all I
got was, "Sorry, we cannot do
anything for you. But ..."
The mail comes every day for
contributions. Where do all the
contributions go? As the Yam-
rom family said, "We were not
poor enough and not rich
enough." Every door was closed
— that's what I found. Let's
hope that in the future things
will change, and everyone need-
ing help will find that help is
there.

`Dollars' Series
And Responsibility

I have read the series of arti-
cles by Charles Hoffman about
"Where Do All Our Dollars Go",
with scathing reference to the
Jewish Agency/WZO, with more
than meticulous care. Frankly, I
am a bit perplexed by the vol-
uminous information presented.
First, there appears to be an
underlying assumption °on the
part of the author that there
was something rotten in De-
nmark, which may have colored
his presentation. Then he no
doubt lived with the facts, or
what he thought were facts, but
for a person not particularly
dunce and trying to be of an
open mind, it was not that clear
to me ...
Also, you appear to have gone
beyond the ordinary call of duty
of a Jewish organ of national
scope, which you are, to arouse
attention to the critical thesis.
One may ask, what is it to you?
True a newspaper has the obli-
gation to expose corruption and
inefficiency in public institu-
tions. However, the deliberate
spreading of such charges must
be left to such agencies as the
federations, the subsidiary
Zionist organizations and the
like. Why have these remained
silent if Charles Hoffman has
the goods?
We must not overlook that be-
tween the latter and Leon Dul-
zin, the head of the Jewish
agency, a. tried and faithful pub-
lic servant, the onus is on
Hoffman; has he met it?

derneath, behold, a kippah. He
dashed in to participate with all
of us in the service.
The shul was a large one, yet
there was standing room only
for what might be considered a
minor fast on a regular work
day. Chasidim, Americans, knit-
ted caps, Sephardim, beards and
clean shaven - we all prayed to
the Master of the Universe with
sincerity and all unified in the
echod (oneness) bond.
This is the secret of the Torah
Jew. We have commonality. We
act alike, we eat alike, we pray
alike. We behave as one within
the fence of the Shulchan, our
Torah law. Yes, many of us
have differing outlooks. Varied
philosophies abound — about
our view towards Eretz Yisroel;
about the coming of Moshiach.
But the nitty-gritty for all of us
is God's law — both our service
toward Him and our behavior
towards our fellow-man. Our
secret — we are one.

A bit of a story to clarify so-
called "Orthodox differences."
Last 17th of Tammuz fast, I ran
intc shul in Jerusalem to daven
with the afternoon minyan. My
wife waited for me in front of
the shul. When prayers were
finished, she told me about a
motorcyclist, black-jacketed and
helmeted who zoomed up to the
shul door, jumped off his bike,
/— ripped off the helmet, and un-

The board of the Polish Sec-
ond World War Resistance Vete-
rans Association states that the
election of Mr. Kurt Waldheim
to the presidency of Austria met
with its profound disapproval.
Thousands of soldiers of the
Resistance (Polish "Home
Army") who opposed the Ger-
man terror and reprisals on the
occupied territories during
World War II were imprisoned,
tortured and murdered by the
German Nazi authorities in tor-
ture chambers of the Gestapo,
prisons and concentration
camps. Those who survived have
the duty to inform the public
about atrocities which were
commited on the Polish popula-
tion and about the extermina-
tion of the Jewish population by
the Nazi invaders.
Accusations were advanced
against Mr. Waldheim that he
participated in similar crimes in
non-Polish territories. These al-
legations are so serious that the
person against whom they are
directed should completely abs-
tain from any participation in
public life until a thorough in-
vestigation is finished, and
should return to political ac-
tivity only if the accusations are
proven to be thoroughly ground-
less.
Otherwise, it is imperative to
draw proper conclusions, with-
out any hesitation, as the al-
leged genocide cannot be sub-
jected to any status of limita-
tions.
