Sidney Freedland has been
elected president of the board of
directors of the Jewish Commu-
nity Center of Metropolitan De-
troit. Freedland is past president
of the Oakland-Century Lodge of
B'nai B'rith, past officer of Cong.
Beth Shalom and past chairman
of the Mercantile Division of the
Allied Jewish Campaign.
Currently, Freedland sits on
the executive board of the Jewish
Vocational Service, the Cam-
paign leadership committee of the
Allied Jewish Campaign and the
culture and education committee
of the Jewish Welfare Federation.
Robert Slatkin was installed as
chairman of the executive corn-
mittee. Vice Presidents are: Irwin
Elson, Linda Lee, Richard Mad-
din and Howard Tapper. Janice
Shatzman is the secretary, and
Robert Citrin is the treasurer.
Members-at-Large are Marion
Handleman, Sharon Lipton and
Eric Lutz.
Board members installed for a
first three-year term are: Dennis
Deutch, Ken Dishell, Don Fox,
Judy Granader, Jerome Halperin,
Jim Jacobs, Jerald Kaufman, Be-
verly Liss, Susan Pappas and
Boaz Siegel.
Installed for a second three-
year term are Doris Blechman,
Robert Cohen, Marcy Feldman,
Cheryl Guyer, Geri Lester, Philip
Minkin, Edie Mittenthal, Ron
Rich, Janice Shatzman, Eleanore
Sugarman, Joyce Weckstein and
Alan Yost.
Harry Eisenberg and Bernie
Kent were elected to fill two-year

The Jewish Community Center
has embarked on a fund-raising
campaign, "Sponsor Some Sun-
shine," to enable 500 youngsters
to attend its day camp.
The campaign will be directed
by Judy Granader and Arnie Kol-
lin.
Activities offered to campers
are: sports crafts, drama, com-
puter studies, music, nature,
boating and swimming.

Company is planning to present
the musical, Funny Girl, at the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit in West
Bloomfield.
Auditions for singers, dancers
and actors will be held at the
Jewish Community Center on
July 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on July 15
at 7:30 p.m. Those auditioning
should bring a resume, plus their
own try-out material, if they wish.
If none is provided, the production
company will provide music and
reading material. The director,
musical director and choreog-
rapher will judge each applicant.

Family Day
At The Center

The Jewish Community Center
will have a family day noon-3 p.m.
July 6 at the Camp Ruth facility
on the grounds of the Maple-
Drake building.
Families should bring a picnic
lunch. Sundae fixings will be
available, and guests also may go
swimming and participate in
other outdoor activities.
There is a charge which is re-
duced for families who make
reservations by Tuesday. For de-

Sports Clinics
For Senior Adults

The Jewish Community Center
has announced the dates for its
free summer sports clinics for
adults, age 50 and older, in prep-
aratiOn for the Sept. 28 Master
and Senior Maccabi.
Clinics will be held as follows:
July 13, tennis at 9 a.m., racquet-
ball at 9 a.m., swimming at 4:30
p.m. and volleyball at 10 a.m.;
Aug. 10, tennis at 9 a.m., table
tennis at 10 a.m., racquetball at 9
a.m., swimming at 4:30 p.m. and
volleyball at 10 a.m.; and Sept. 14,
tennis at 9 a.m., racquetball at 9
a.m., swimming at 4:30 p.m. and
volleyball at 10 a.m.
The Maccabi will combine ath-
letic competition in eight sports
with non-athletic competition as
well as a participatory Wellness
