ANITA HAENICK, P.T., M.A.

announces

Youth Aliyah are now a recogniz-
able corps of workers, teachers,
local and national government,
defense and industrial leaders.
Often peer models on every level
of Israeli life, they are visible be-
cause of their rootedness in com-
munity and country. This is be-
cause Youth Aliyah has always
focused on the highest goals,
physical and psychological
health, meaningful education,
and respect for the fierce need of
all youth for acceptance and suc-
cess.
I find it interesting that Mr.
Hoffman makes little reference to
the fact that Youth Aliyah pro-
vided the framework for the ab-
sorption of the Ethiopian
youngsters, most of whom came
without parents and with very
special problems not easily
mainstreamed into other existing
educational institutions.
Hadassah, with its enormous
financial commitments, would
not be in the slightest way "em-
barrassed" to lessen its obliga-
tion. We will not do so, however,
because just as we believe Project
Renewal is one approach to social
problems in Israel, so too do we
believe even more so that Youth
Aliyah continually finds new
ways to help the disadvantaged
youth of Israel become productive
citizens of that free democracy.
You may be interested in know-
ing that the New York City
agency that deals with juvenile
problems is exploring ways to
adapt the Youth Aliyah experi-
ence so that the South Bronx can
enjoy the same success with their
youth that Israel has.

Birmingham Takes
Creche To Court

The Birmingham City Com-
mission plans to appeal to the U.S.
Supreme Court to take the city's
Christmas Nativity Scene out of
storage.
The creche had been displayed
on the City Hall's lawn for 30
years, until 1984 when U.S. Dis-
trict Judge Anna Diggs Taylor
ruled that the display violated the
constitutional separation of
church and state. That ruling was
recently upheld by the U.S. 6th
Circuit Court.
The City Commission voted 4-2
Monday night to allocate $5,000
for the court fight.
