Brooks, Dr. Nathan Brooks,
Diane Fishman, Nadine Miller,
Eugene Nabat, Joseph Roberts,
Barbara Saltz, Murray Sedley
and Nancy Spector.
The bar and bat mitzvah study
program consisted of coursework
in the Hebrew language, Jewish
history, Torah, customs and
ceremonies and the history of
liturgical music. The instructors
were Rabbi M. Robert Syme,
Rabbi Harold Loss, Cantor
Harold Orbach, Joseph A. Pois-
son, director of education, and
Ethel Bobroff.
The theme of the original serv-
ice written by the b'nai mitzvah
was "commitment." Members of
the B'nai Mitzvah family were
involved in the placing of the tal-
litot on the celebrants at the be-
ginning of the service.

Twins Bar Mitzvah

Andrea Goldman and Rachel
Rosen will twin the observance of
their b'not mitzvah celebration at
8:45 a.m. Saturday at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek with Yulya Gen-
fan, daughter of Anna and Ger-
man Genfan of Moscow, USSR.
Andrea, daughter of Gail and
Henry Sandweiss, and Rachel,
daughter of Sharon and Leonard
Rosen, have been writing to
Yulya for several months.
The Genfans are both
engineers. In December 1979,
they applied for exit visas in
order to be reunited with their
family abroad since they no
longer had any relatives living in
the USSR. In November 1981,
they received an official refusal
for no apparent reason. German
then lost his job.
The Genfans have another
daughter, Lily, born in 1963. The
family is continuing to hope for
the right to emigrate to Israel.

Chuck Bletstein, son of Jack
Bletstein and Mrs. Elaine Blets-
tein, grandson of Morris and Be-
rtha Bletstein, will twin his bar
mitzvah ceremony with Evgeny
Molchanov of Kiev, Russia at
Shabbat services at 9 a.m. Satur-
day at Cong. B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield.
The Molchanovs, of Kiev, are a
separated family. The father,
• Leonid, emigrated from the
USSR in 1978. A year later, when
the family was able to save
enough money to pay for visas,
the mother, Galina, and son,
Evgeny, submitted their applica-
tions. Four months later they
were refused.
Mrs. Molchanov has lost her
job as a bookkeeper. In addition
to the emotional strain of living
separated from her husband, she
and Evgeny are suffering eco-
nomically.
