Transport Service
Available To Seniors
You can't get a ride to see your
grandchildren or have lunch at a
neighborhood deli, but if you
need to get to the doctor, then
transportation is available.
TOSS — Transportation of
Southfield Seniors — is a six-
month-old pilot program in which
free bus service is available to
senior adults and handicappers
who need transportation to the
doctor, dentist, pharmacist or
physical therapist.
Co-sponsored by "Providence
Hospital, Southfield Public
Schools, the Michigan Depart-
ment of Transportation and the
Southeastern Michigan Trans-
portation Authority, TOSS cur-
rently has only one bus available
to serve an area bounded by
Evergreen, 13 Mile, Greenfield
and Eight Mile.
Any senior or handicapper
within the TOSS boundaries is
welcome to call the service 24-
hours in advance of when they
need it. The service. operates
Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to
3 p.m.
Johanna Cothery, president of
the senior Adult Advisory Coun-
cil, said that the service was es-
tablished to encourage senior
adults to be more independent,
but she emphasized that the serv-
ice is only set up to take riders to
medical appointments.
To schedule a ride, call TOSS,
356-1500.
