William Broomfield (R- Birmingham) that Reagan meet with Elena Bonner to indicate United States support for her husband Andrei Sakharov and other prisoners of conscience. The suggestion was made before Bon- ner's return to the Soviet Union. According to Ball, Reagan has made it clear that he considers Sakharov's plight a serious case and has recognized his contribu- tion to the cause of human free- dom in many ways, including proclaiming May 21 Andrei Sakharov Day. . Ball also assured Broomfield that they have pressed for an amelioration of Sakharov's situa- tion in every way possible and will continue to do so. He said Reagan will pursue individual cases through confidential chan- nels, and believes that approach offers the best hope of resolving these cases. 15600 W. 10 MILE RD. Abram, chairman of the National Confer- ence on Soviet Jewry, has been elected by acclamation to a one- year term as chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, effective July 1.
