Workshop Ties
U.S., Emigre Jews

Recognizing the need to
enhance communication between c-\'
Jews from Russia and the Jewish )
American community, the Rus- L.
sian Advisory Comittee, under
the auspices of the Jewish Com-
munity Center's senior adult de-
partment, will sponsor a work-
shop — "From Co-existence to
Collaboration."
This workshop is designed to
provide information and to ‘\
explore avenues for increased
understanding, communication
and cooperation between recent
Russian immigrants and the pro-
fessionals and business people in
the community.
The Russian Advisory Com-
mittee was developed recently in
response to a perceived need by (1
the Center to assist the accultu-
ration of recent Russian immig-
rants.
Committee members are:
Joanna Berger, director of the
English language program for
the Center; Dr. Zvi Gitelman,
professor of political science,
University of Michigan; Dr. Luba
Berton, Russian acculturation di-
rector; Lydia Kuniaysky, reset-
tlement worker for the Jewish
Miriam
Service;
Family
Sandweiss, senior adult depart- /\
ment director, Jewish Commu-
nity Center.
The Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch serves 80 Russians in the
English as a Second Language
classes and 50 at the Butzel
Senior Summer Camp program.
The committee has been instru-
mental in implementing support _ z
programs for both sites. This
workshop extends the efforts of
the committee by providing a
public forum for discussion of is-
sues of mutual interest to the
larger professional and lay corn-
munities.
The workshop will be held on
June 27 at .1 p.m. in Jaffe Hall at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Branch. The topic will be "A Re-
union of Foreigners." Mrs.
Kuniaysky will present a histori-
cal perspective and Dr. Berton
will discuss "Current Perspec-
tives on Adjustment." After cof-
fee, the audience will have the
opportunity to participate in an
open discussion with panelists.
