and hopes to carry them out.
First, he suggests more direct ac-
tion. One young girl carries a
7 felt pen with her and every time
• she sees anti-Semitic remarks,
• she crosses them out." There is
also a Protestant group in Au-
stria called Action Against
Anti-Semitism and he would like
to bring American scholars to
Vienna to meet with them and
have an in-depth conference on
-anti-Semitism. He also suggests
that when letters of hate appear
in the newspapers, Christians
should respond.
"I've learned a tremendous
amount about how someone could
live in a dream world of good re-
lations and want to forget the
hate that exists," he explained.
"It opened my eyes to the hatred
of Jews that exists. I can't just sit
in a chair and study; I have to go
out and do."

Security Scandal
Investigated

Jerusalem (JTA) — Attorney
General Yosef Harish indicated
last Monday that he has almost
completed his study of charges
against Avraham Shalom, the
head of Shabak, Israel's internal
security agency, and will present
his recommendations to Prime
Minister Shimon Peres and
Deputy Prime Minister Yitzhak
Shamir soon.
Harish is expected to propose
that the Cabinet establish a
commission of inquiry to con-
duct a secret investigation of
allegations that Shalom was in-
volved in the unexplained deaths
of two Arab terrorists in the
custody of security agents in
April, 1984 and later engaged in
an elaborate cover-up, including
suborning to perjury and
falsification of evidence.
Peres, Shamir and a majority
of the Cabinet have made clear
they would like the matter drop-
ped entirely on national securi-
ty grounds. Former Attorney
General Yitzhak Zamir had
ordered a police investigation of
the affair. His determination to
prosecute Shalom despite the
government's opposition is
believed by many to be the
reason why he has replaced by
Harish, though Zamir had been
planning for some time to resign.
