Lana Pollack warned the Jewish community not to be single-issue oriented when it comes to' politics. It would prove harmful to Jewish survival in this country. Speaking at the annual Rose Frenkel Memorial Lecture on Monday at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, Sen. Pollack said, "We are so focused on support for. Israel that we are forgetting we won't be here to support Israel if we don't protect this country." "I'm a Zionist, I'm proud of it," the Ann Arbor Democrat said, but "I have other responsibilities as well." She explained that when Jews sup- port political candidates they should look beyond the fact that a candidate supports Israel to see what other measures he backs. As an example, Sen. Pollack pointed to Michigan Congressman Mark Siljander (R-Three Rivers) who although he supports Israel, signed a letter opposing the re-election cam- paign of Michigan Congressman Howard Wolpe (D-Lansing) who is Jewish. Siljander, for the second con- secutive election, urged that more Christians be voted into office.
