nounce that Rabbi Daniel B.
Syme, vice president of the Union
of American Hebrew Congrega-
tions and David Syme, concert
pianist, will participate in the
Jewish National Fund annual
testimonial dinner honoring
their parents, 'Rabbi M. Robert
and Sonia Syme, on Wednesday
at Cong. Shaarey Zedek at 6 p.m.
Rabbi Daniel Syme will pre-
sent the Keter Shem Toy Award
to his parents. The younger
Rabbi Syme was graduated from
the University of Michigan and
was ordained at Hebrew Union
College - Jewish Institute of
Religion, Cincinnati, Ohio. He
was graduated with honors at the
Hebrew Union College winning
the Farband Hebrew Prize, the
Sulzberger Award in Homiletics,
and the Lazarus Prize for aca-
demic excellence.
In February 1972, he became
the assistant director of the Na-
tional Federation of Temple
-Youth, the youth arm of the Re-
form movement. In September
1973, he was appointed assistant
national director of education for
the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations and assistant di-
rector of the Commission of
Jewish Education for the Reform
movement. On July 1, 1977, he
became director of both bodies. In
July 1981, he also was named di-
rector of the UAHC Television
and Film Institute.
In July 1983, Daniel Syme be-
came executive assistant to the
president and was elected vice
president in May 1985.
The musical portion of the pro-
gram will include the appearance
of concert pianist, David Syme.
Syme made his performance
debut at age 14 with his high
school orchestra in the Beethoven
First Concerto and when he was
18, played with the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra (with whom he
has subsequently appeared on
seven occasions).
He studied with Ozan Marsh at
the University of Arizona and

versity where he also served as
his teaching assistant. Further
studies have been with Sascha
Gorodnitzki at The Juilliard
School.
Syme has concertized through-
out the United States and in Po-
land, France, England, Italy,
Germany, Scotland, Canada,
Russia, the Netherlands and
Spain, and in 1980 gave a com-
mand performance in Mexico
