Peres Pushes
Development
Fund For Negev

Jerusalem (JTA) — Prime
Minister Shimon Peres will soon
convene a meeting at which it
will be decided to establish a 100
million development • fund for
the Negev, according to reports
here last-week.
The Prime Minister said that
the money will be raised from
outside the Budget via the UJA,
in order to implement Ben
Gurion's vision of the Negev at
the time of this 100 anniversary.
The Jewish Agency, the UJA
and the Finance MInistry have
already agreed in principle to
this enterprise.
The Prime Minister an-
nounced the establishment of
the fund at the first meeting he
held in his office with the
"Negev Parliament," compris-
ing. 25 heads of Negev local
councils. The Prime Minister
called on the representatives
from the Negev to gather ideas
for well-defined and practical
projects which will promote the
Negev. He said, "We are willing
to provide assitance day and
night only if well-defined goals
are proposed and set, towards
which aid can be directed."
Peres gave examples of
several ideas and projects which
he has already begun to ad-
vance: the establishment of in-
dustries in the Negev; the
establishment of a master corn-
puter, to be located in Beer-
sheba; the advancement of the
"ilan" projects (such as re-
locating an airport); the removal
of obstacles in the way of
establishing tourism projects in
Nahal Haver; and the setting up
of the "Voice of America" office
in the Arava.

Of Orthodox

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel's
war-by-posters has spread from
Jerusalem's Orthodox Mea
Shearim quarter to B'nai Brak,
another major center of Or-
thodox Jewry in Israel not far
from Tel Aviv. Yeshiva stu-
dents in B'nai B'rak last week
started a campaign like that of
the Orthodox Mea Shearim
residents, who have been defac-
ing and even burning down bus
shelters platered with large
posters, particularly of partly
unclothed women in bathing
suits.
Several hundred B'nai B'rak
black-garbed Orthodox students ,
demonstrated in front of the
Aboudi advertising agency,
located in B'nai Brak, calling
Israel's media "leftists" and
"Nazis" and blaming them for
the disputed advertisements.
The Orthodox demonstrators
attacked two local radio stations
and Israel Defense Force station
reporters, and tried to burn a
garbage can. They were stopped
by police who made no arrests.
