The Jewish Parents Institute will hold its second annual b'nai mitzvah ceremony on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the main Jewish Community Center. A reception will follow the ceremony. Celebrants are: Karen Moura- dian, Jennifer Davis, Allison Berg, Joshua Walker, Bill Stettner and Jonathan Mandel. The JPI B'nai Mitzvah pro- gram is an optional interdisci- plinary study including a philosophical study of the Torah and Talmud, a 32-hour commu- nity related work project, an in- dividual research project, and the study of bar/bat mitzvah and other "rite of passage" litera- ture. This year celebrants have chosen the following research topics and community work projects: Allison has chosen "Yiddish Literature" as her research proj- ect and has worked as a teacher's assistant at Conant Elementary School in Bloom- field Township. Jennifer has researched the life and career of Louis Bran- deis, and has worked with the elderly' at Prentis Manor. Jon has chosen "Jews in the Old West" as his research topic, and worked at two area nature preserves for his community service project. Karen studied the life of Anne Frank, and assisted in the Meadow Lake Elementary School in Birmingham. Bill chose as his research Emanu-el Lists Confirmands Temple Emanu-El will have confirmation services at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the temple. Confirmands are: Jane Be- rman, Jonathan Cooper, Brian Erdstein, Beth Ferstenfeld, Sheri Fine, Aaron Goldstein, Ira Go: [stein, Lori Greenwald, Lisa Jackier, Douglas Levy, Michelle Pearlman, Daniel Richmond and Marla Stoller. topic, "Jews in Unusual Places," and completed his community service project in an after-school latchkey program. Josh researched the life and philosophies of Albert Einstein, also completed his community service project at Prentis Manor. Twinning Slated At Shaarey Zedek Aaron Hamburger, son of Dr. Joel and Hilda Hamburger, and Richard Clark, son of Daniel and Suzanne Clark, will share their b'nai mitzvah at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Cong. Shaarey Zedek with Mark Buzharsky of Kishinev, USSR. Aaron and Richard have been writing to their "twin" in the Soviet Union for months, but have not yet received a reply. They share their b'nai mitzvah because Mark is not allowed to have his in Russia. Isaac Buzharsky, Mark's father, is a refusenik in Kishinev. A simple worker, his occupation is that of locksmith. His wife, Ada, was an account- ant but she lost her job soon after applying for a visa. With the stigma of refusenik on her, she has not been able to find any other kind of work. Her parents, the Nesatys, of Kishinev, also have been re- fused permission. Buzharsky wishes to be re- united with his aunt who has been in Israel since 1980. He was refused on the ground of "regime considerations" — army service. This is seen as just one more instance of official harassment since Buzharsky's tour of duty with the army was completed -in December 1970, more than 15 years ago. The congregation will be asked to write letters of con- gratulation to the family: Buzharsky Family, Belskogo 20/1 Apt. 79, Kishinev 43, Bol- davian SSR, USSR.
