the shaliach personifies. Our
community is indeed fortunate
in having a shaliach who repre-
sents the ultimate in an "emis-
sary from Israel."
Bennie Schwarz is the
shaliach for this area. He is a
highly professional, talented,
and humane individual. The
work and time he devotes to his
position is over and beyond any
responsibilities that are as-
signed to him. This became ap-
parent when I worked with him
in preparation for the Israel In-
dependence Day Celebration ...
His assignments include many
facets. To present the impor-
tance and features of making
aliyah to Israel is a major task.
This involves meeting with stu-
dents at the MSU and the U of
M campuses. There he also in-
terprets the role of Israel. He
has a joint shlichut: aliyah,
zionist movement and the
Jewish Community Center. He
meets with the youth organiza-
tions that exist in the syn-
gogues, temples, and Jewish day
schools. He responds almost
immediately and cordially to all
individuals and organizations
who need his help.
Bennie Schwarz represents
the ideal Israeli. He presents
the best and the finest that
Zionism can produce: a kib-
butznick, a veteran of three
wars, and a graduate of the Is-
raeli educational system.
