Ron is celebrating his 25th year in show business . :. and June 11 gets congrats on 43rd birthday. He's remembered by many from the Oak Park Follies years back ... along with Joe Forbes, Harold "Tu Tu" Haber, myself and so many others. In 1961, right after gradua- tion from Oak Park High, Ron and his trio, The Impromptus, played their first paid gig at Pine Knob restaurant ... sound- ing much like the Kingston Trio, tops on the charts at 'that time. With his present group, Steve Fava, bass guitar, and Ron Blight, also on guitar, Ron still does Kingston Trio numbers as part of the show. In the early '60s, Ron gained much recognition as a folk singer at former Raven Gallery, Greenfield and 12 Mile, now site of Sweet Lorraine's. People like Delores and Mike Sylvester of Dearborn, take top honors so far as Ron's most rabid fans (winners will be guests of owners Lenore and Jack Freed at Comedy Crossing) thise who have seen Ron the most times ... They go over the 300 mark, from Pine Knob Res- taurant in 1961 . . . and had their 40th wedding anniversary at spot Ron was playing. Special events at the shows, June 13-14, will honor Ron ... including presentations by longtime friends and fans .. . and, of course, the cutting be- tween shows of a combination anniversary and birthday cake.
