The Moishe Haar Memorial
Foundation and the Sholem
Aleichem Institute will hold its
annual educational and cultural
event in memory of Moishe
Haar at 7:30 p.m. June 1 at the
main United Hebrew Schools'
LaMed Auditorium.
Mr. Haar was director of the
Sholem Aleichem Institute for
many years. The institute is a
secular Jewish cultural and
educational organization.
Storyteller Peninnah Schram
will entertain.
The stories that Ms. Schram
tells are legends and folktales
from Biblical, Talmudic, Mid-
rashic, Chassidic, Yiddish,
Sephardic and Israeli sources.
They tell of the written and oral
Jewish tradition.
Ms. Schram performs and
conducts workshops in storytel-
ling across the country. She is
an associate professor of speech
and drama at Stern College of
Yeshiva University.
She has published many arti-
cles on storytelling and also re-
corded three albums/cassettes.
This year's committee in-
cludes Bette Schein, president of
Sholem Aleichem Institute; Lil-
lian Gold and Rose Roth.
The public is invited free of
charge.

vision tour old Jewish Detroit
on June 1.
The group will gather in front
of the Fleischman Residence on
the Jewish Community Campus
at 11 a.m. YAD members will
follow the Jewish community's
progression from its beginnings
at East Congress and St. An-
toine — where Detroit's first
Jewish religious services were
held in 1850 — to Dexter and
Davison and finally to Oak Park
and Southfield.
Stops along the way include
the city's old Jewish neighbor-
hoods, synagogues and schools.
Leading the tour will be tele-
vision and radio personality
Paul Winter.
