One of his most recent books,
Biblical Themes in World Litera-
ture, reviewed in Purely Com-
mentary in the Feb. 21 issue,
gave an account of most reveal-
ing developments by the leading
world scholars on Bible themes.
The importance of the oncom-
ing festschrift Identity and
Ethos is in the evaluation to be
provided of the creative life of
the great scholar.
Noteworthy are the con-
tributors to the festschrift who
will include Milton Hindus,
Jacob Kabakoff, Lothar Kahn,
Gershon Shakad, Ephraim
Shmueli, Chaim Shohan, Daniel
Walden, Harry Cohn and a score
of others who are well known in
Jewish journalism.
It is heartening to know that
Jewish genius is not ignored.
Sol Liptzin represents "Jewish
literary and scholarly genius." It
is well that he is not forgotten
and will be especially remem-
bered when he turns 85 on July
27.

Dr. Abraham Katsh

It is heartening to hear about
another festschrift being pre-
pared in honor of one of the
most distinguished Hebrew
scholars; The current volume of
the journal Hebrew Studies will
be dedicated by the American
Association of Professors of He-
brew to Dr. Abraham Katsh,
who was the founder of the
association in 1952.
Because of the wealth of
material in this volume, it, too,
must be rated as a festschrift.
The 26 essays were written by
international experts on the He-
brew language and literature,
the Bible and related areas of
scholarship.
Presentation of the volume to
Dr. Katsh was made at a recep-
tion May 19 by the editor of the
volume, Prof. Keith N.
Schoville, of the Hebrew de-
partment of the University of
Wisconsin and current president
of the National Association of
Professors of Hebrew.
This is among the honors to
noted scholars that calls for
widest recognition and acclaim.
