Slated For NCSY

The Central East Region of
the National Conference of
Synagogue Youth announces
that Rabbi Ronald Greenwald
will be the guest of honor at the
second annual fund-raising
breakfast to be held Jure 8 at
Young Israel of Greenfield at 9
a.m.
Rabbi Greenwald participated
in efforts for the release of
Soviet refusenik Anatoly
Shcharansky. Over several
years, Rabbi Greenwald has
been involved in negotiations
with Dr. Wolfgang Vogel, an
East German lawyer, who was
in contact with the Soviet gov-
ernment. Rabbi Greenwald was
instrumental in securing the re-
lease of Shcharansky and three
other Western sympathizers in
exchange for three spies being
held in West Germany and two
Czechoslovakian spies being
held in the United States.
In addition, Rabbi Greenwald
negotiated the release of Myron
Marcus, a 26-year-old Jew with
an Israeli passport, who was ar-
rested and charged with spying
when his plane crashed in
Mozambique.
From 1980 to 1982, Rabbi
Greenwald served as ambas-
sador to the United States from
Bophuthatswana, a small South
African country. Rabbi Green-
wald has also served as director
of Camp Sternberg in New York
for more than 25 years. He has
taught in various yeshivot and
day schools and is presently a
commodities broker, living in
Monsey, N.Y. Rabbi Greenwald
serves as the national NCSY
chairman.

ticipate in the annual confer-
ence for the Congress of Secular
Jewish Organizations (CSJO) to
be held this weekend at the
Lake Forest College, Lake For-
est, Ill.
Adult participants include
long-time JPI memberS Judy

Gales. Teen participants include
